The Spirent Avalanche 220 is a portable Avalanche Load Testing Application designed for equipment manufacturers, service providers, and enterprise network operators. It offers powerful testing and troubleshooting capabilities that can be quickly deployed in remote locations. With a focus on triple play voice, video, and data networks, the Avalanche 220 analyzes performance and security aspects. This application excels in accurately emulating user and network behavior, ensuring tight security and optimal application performance. It offers the flexibility of deployment as a fixed, rack-mounted solution or for on-field evaluation of remote sites.
The Avalanche 220 allows for flexible load specifications that can be applied globally or on a per-user profile basis. This includes parameters such as user sessions, transactions, connections, new sessions per second, transactions per second, or new connections per second. It also supports Web Services testing, enabling interaction with dynamic content sites, and emulates multiple browser types. The Avalanche 220 faithfully simulates user click patterns, incorporating configurable "think times" and user click-aways. It supports various elements such as cookies, HTML forms, session IDs, HTTP posts, as well as HTTP basic and proxy authentication.
With TCL-based scripting support, the Avalanche 220 enhances productivity by providing an option to bypass the Commander interface and utilize TCL-based scripting. This feature empowers users to develop, store, and reuse test bench configurations efficiently. Reporting capabilities of the Avalanche 220 are extensive. It offers SNMP monitoring and reporting, real-time statistics for immediate feedback during infrastructure performance tests, and an analyzer that generates reports and graphs exportable in JPG, PDF, and HTML formats. The appliance also allows for easy setup, typically requiring only 15 minutes for rack mounting, power-up, and browser configuration. The user-friendly Avalanche Commander graphical user interface (GUI) enables quick system configuration, including clustering support for large test bench setups using multiple sequences.
The Avalanche 220 provides application realism through its support for multiple protocols, such as HTTP 1.0/1.1, HTTPS, FTP, streaming media, IPv6, voice (SIP), mail (SMTP/POP3), DNS, Telnet, 802.1Q VLAN tagging, IPSec, and PPPoE. This broad protocol support enables accurate testing of performance-sensitive network activities like e-commerce, mail, streaming media, video on-demand streaming via multicast, file transfer, and next-generation IP. Real-time statistics across all protocols allow users to assess the stability of equipment or infrastructure during testing. Additionally, SNMP statistics can be gathered from the devices or software components being tested, facilitating comparisons between variables like CPU utilization and end-user response time.
